A common question of late is, “Why Should I Start A Blog”

Blogs can cover many fields, Personal, Business, Hobby, Club, News and more, the options are endless and the choice is yours as to whether a Blog will provide you with what you are seeking.

To give you some insight into why I believe Blogs are of value I have included a recent article I wrote in answer to the question:

10 Reasons Why You Should Start A Blog

Blogs, or weblogs, are becoming increasingly more popular. Blogs are often used for sharing and managing information, customer service, journalism and creative writing, learning, marketing, political campaigns, and the building of communities.

The popularity of blogs is quickly surpassing that of ezine and press releases as a marketing medium. In 2004, the word “blog” topped Merriam-Webster’s list of the 10 most looked-up words.

Website owners and business professionals have many reasons to start and maintain a blog. Here are the top ten reasons why you should be blogging:

Reason #1 - Search engines like blogs. They pick up the ever changing content, and the inbound and outbound links. Having a blog on your site moves it higher up in the search results, and you ultimately get more traffic to your website. When writing your blog, you should link to other blogs that relate to your topic as much as you can.

Reason #2 - Blogging helps your customers know that you are human. Blogs should be written from a first person point of view. Be honest, and this will put a fresh, trustworthy face on your business or organization.

Reason #3 - You can offer your visitors fresh content often. If you use your blog as a “how to” space, your visitors will return often. They will also return if your writing is interesting. Since blogs are web based, they can be updated anytime, from any location that has a computer with Internet access.

Reason #4 - You can use RSS feeds to syndicate your content. This gives you more exposure, and ultimately more website traffic. There are many directories that are specifically for blogs that you can be listed in, free of charge.

Reason #5 - You can keep your visitors up-to-date on your products and services. Do not use your blog just to advertise. Write content that is rich with related keywords, and plug your service or product in the content. This does increase your sales.

Reason#6 - Blogging can help you to position yourself as an expert in your field or industry. Write often about what you know best. Link to other sources of information on your topic as well. Let your readers know that you know what you are talking about.

Reason #7 - You can use your blog instead of sending out newsletters. Set up a subscription form, then just send out an email notifying your subscribers when your blog is updated. This will help to cut down on undeliverable email due to spam filters.

Reason #8 - You can write all of your articles on your blog, and they are instantly archived for you. You can create your own list of ezine publishers and send them a short email when you post a new article.

Reason #9 - Your visitors can comment on your entries. People like having the ability to interact with a website. This makes them feel that they are part of something. This also enables you to receive instant feedback from your customers or website visitors.

Reason #10 - If your writing is interesting, many other bloggers will link to it. This will give you traffic from their blog. Make each post as interesting and as informative as you possibly can.
