Resale Rights - What Are They?
If you have been looking for a way to do business online for any amount of time, you have probably heard the term “resell rights.” This term is usually attached to information products. When you buy the product, you may be given resell rights. The name means exactly what it says. The author of the product gives you the right to resell the product and keep all of the profits. This may also be termed as “resale rights”, “reprint rights”, “master resell rights” or “master resale rights.”
The resell rights may come automatically with the purchase of the product, or you may have to purchase the resell rights separately.
With resell rights, the author of the product may have stipulations. You may not be allowed to sell the product for more or less than a specific price. The author may also stipulate that the product not be sold through auctions, because it lowers the value of the product. With most resell rights, you are not allowed to change the name of the product. Each author will differ in what is or is not allowed in the resell license.
Master resell rights give you the right to resell the product, and to resell the resell rights as well. For many people who are just starting out, this is a great way to quickly start a business. You are not required to have your own product and you will not have a large overhead – if you have any overhead costs at all. The largest cost to you is generally the purchase of the resell rights or master resell rights. This cost varies from program to program, but it generally runs up into the hundreds or, often, thousands of dollars.
Having resell rights differs from being an affiliate. With affiliate programs, you sell the product or service, but you only get to keep a certain percentage of the sale. With resell rights, you get to keep 100% of the sale. You are your own boss, and as long as you follow the terms set out in the reseller’s license, you operate your business as you see fit.
When you are searching for a product with resell rights, there are some important things to keep in mind. First, you need to know up front what will, or will not be allowed. Will you have resell rights, or master resell rights? Can you set your own price, or will you be required to charge a specific price? Ideally, you want a product that you have total rights over. You want to be able to do whatever you choose to do with the product. As with everything else you purchase, you want to get a great deal of value for your money.
Most importantly, you want a product that you can sell. If the product is not worth much, you will not be easily be able to resell it. It is also difficult, if not impossible to sell products in a saturated market.
Finding good products that meet all of the above criteria is not easy. Henry Gold made a $5000 mistake when he purchased resell rights. He learned well from that mistake, but he didn’t give up. He searched for six months and finally found products that he could sell, with master resell rights.
