I’m Online, I have a Website, Now What…
All to frequently I am asked the same question, What am I doing wrong?
Another asked today so this post serves as my response and to others that might be pondering as to the reasons why as well.
So what am I referring to?
It’s the age old message…”Build it and they will Come”
Well actually they won’t.
I have spent the time to learn some HTML, I have secured a template I like and I have modified it to suit my needs.
Since I have purchased a domain name and signed up with a reputable host, my website has been uploaded and it looks great. My new site promotes several very good products as an affiliate but after several weeks of being online I have not made one sale.
Can you please take a look at my site and tell me what I need to change or what I might be doing wrong?
Without visiting the site I ask a few questions:
Q: Before launching the site did you do any research in regards to your potential market?
A: No, The product looked very good so I assumed others would be interested as well.
Q: How and or where have you promoted your site?
A: I haven’t promoted it anywhere other than a few on a few forums in my signature.
Q: Had you considered PPC or do you have a list to present your offer to?
A: No, but I am trying to build a list.
Skipping ahead I asked if they understand how to read their website stats, I know that your host uses cPanel so a significant number of stats are freely available.
To cut a long story short if they had been able to read their stats it would of clearly shown the fact that their site was not receiving any traffic…almost nil in fact.
I related to them the following, have you ever considered buying a new car?
Most of us that are considering a purchase head out first and do a little research, what’s available, the price, the specification, the resale value, how economical is it to run, what warranty do I get, insurance costs and so on.
So after we make a valued judgement using all of the information collected we take delivery of our bright and shiny new vehicle loaded with all the flash bells and whistles but… it is of no use to you unless you buy some petrol to get it started!
Staking your claim to a piece of real estate on the internet is no different, unless you do adequate reasearch and are prepared to put all the pieces in place then you are unlikely to get anything other than a minimal return for your time and effort.
Preparation is everything but it is of little value unless you put it to the test and then test some more.
